Management of mining companies: Directors representing the State get training on financial information

Koudougou, Monday 17 October 2022 (DCRP/MMC). The Secretary General (SG) of the Ministry of Mines and Quarries, Moïse OUEDRAOGO, presided over the opening of the training session for administrators representing the State on the Board of Directors of mining companies. The theme of this training session is: “Financial statements of mining companies: analysis and understanding of financial information by administrators representing the State”.The Burkinabe mining sector contributes significantly to the national economy every year. In 2021, gold production is estimated at about 66 tons with a contribution to the state budget of about 430.8 billion FCFA. According to the SG, Moïse OUEDRAOGO, it is important for the State, as a shareholder of mining companies, to have a good understanding of the financial information in these companies. This training is therefore relevant, he stressed: “A good analysis of financial statements and complementary reports is essential for improving governance and monitoring the management of mining companies by the State”. These directors are from the Ministries in charge of Mines and Finance. They are men and women representing the State in 25 mining companies, including those in operation and those under construction. The participants will be equipped with modules such as the presentation of the management information system of a mining company, the presentation of the main management indicators and the example of a reading grid of the financial statements of a mining company. “This training is the realization of one of the recommendations made by the administrators at the meeting of exchanges with the Minister in charge of Mines, held on the 30th of December 2021”, recalled Moïse OUEDRAOGO. The 54 learners at this session are divided into 2 groups for 3 days of training each. While inviting them to appropriate the knowledge they will be given, the Secretary General assured them that this training is the beginning of continuous capacity building for the benefit of administrators.
