SALMA mining SA is the first fully nationally funded independent mining company in Burkina Faso. On 4 January 2022, a delegation from SALMA mining SA, led by its Deputy Managing Director, Pascal Diendéré, presented the project to the Minister of Mines. The DGA also listed the difficulties encountered.
According to a press release issued by the communication department of the Ministry of Mines, the delegation took the opportunity to present the SALMA mining SA group, which is a group composed of an exploration company that deals with the research permits that discovered the deposit and SALMA mining SA, the industrial exploitation company of the large mine. The latter was granted a mining licence by the government in 2021 in an area straddling the communes of Legmoin and Gbomblora, in the provinces of Noumbiel and Poni. “We have explained where we stand with the development of this industrial mine in which the state is a 10% shareholder in accordance with the provisions of the mining code,” said Pascal Diendéré.
He did not miss the main difficulties encountered, notably the security situation which does not facilitate the mobilisation of financing. In addition, there is the action of gold miners who exert pressure on mining titles. During this audience, the Minister Simon-Pierre BOUSSIM affirmed the full support of his department to SALMA mining SA.
In addition, the CEO of SALMA mining SA (as reported by the communication department of the ministry) announced good prospects for the Group because research has shown that the mine’s life span, which was 4 years, will be extended. He also indicated that the Company is at 90% of the negotiations of the land on the five square kilometres and that it intends to complete this phase during the first quarter of this year to really start the construction of the mine.
