Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR): “Voluntary initiatives of a company cannot replace its mandatory responsibilities” according to Dr. #Hervé_Lado

0

In a scientific publication, Dr Hervé Lado discusses the mandatory and voluntary social responsibilities of companies. Here are some extracts from the publication:

“First of all, by comparing the Anglo-Saxon and European approaches to CSR, we will recall that even if the States are attached to a CSR/DD approach in the service of the development of their companies, the institutional mechanisms organising the assumption of social costs are expanding and becoming more restrictive”

“Responsibility has a double meaning, voluntary and mandatory, which creates ambiguity in the definition and implementation of corporate social responsibility (CSR) and their contribution to sustainable development. Using the concept of crypto-morality, the authors demonstrate that the treatment of the social costs generated by the activities of companies, which is at the heart of the CSR project, is only credible and sustainable in an institutional environment that favours the detectability and strong penalisation of predatory behaviour. They develop a map of corporate responsibilities that specifies the respective fields of voluntary and mandatory responsibilities”.

“Institutional mechanisms can consider voluntary and/or mandatory adherence and/or application”.

“Ultimately, corporate responsibility is dynamic, it evolves with the quality of #regulation and the capacity of stakeholders to maintain an active and credible watch”.
