During the month of February 2023, Burkina Faso recorded an industrial production of fine gold of 5.408 tonnes. This production is up by 48.3% compared to January 2023 (3.647 tonnes of gold produced), according to data from the report on the monitoring of economic and development indicators, published by the Directorate General of the Economy and Planning (DGEP). Production in February 2023 was a good performance, bringing annual production (January and February 2023) to 9,055 tonnes. However, it is lower than in the same period in 2022, when 9.775 tonnes were recorded. This decline between 2022 and 2023 corresponds to a rate of 7.4%.
According to the DGEP, the price of an ounce of gold contracted by 2.2% in February 2023 compared to the previous month, standing at 1,856.3 USD. Compared to its level in February 2022, the gold price is almost stable with a year-on-year decrease of -0.1%.
The US dollar traded at 612.2 CFA francs in February 2023 against 609.2 CFA francs in January 2023, an appreciation of 0.5%. Year-on-year, the US dollar appreciated by 5.9% against the CFA franc.
