The Bia River, one of the symbols of south-eastern Côte d’Ivoire, seems to have been flowing peacefully for many centuries. But today, illegal mining activity in the area is contaminating this source from which nearly 50,000 inhabitants draw a good part of their food.
In Bianouan, in the department of Aboisso, the first victims of mercury mining are already being counted.
