Mining sector: traces of lithium in Burkina Faso

0

In January 2022, Red Rock Resources announced the acquisition of 2 exploration projects in Burkina Faso in the prolific Boromo and Banfora greenstone belts. In a press release issued on Thursday 15 June 2023, Red Rock Resources PLC stated that it had obtained an environmental certificate for its first project in Zimbabwe, allowing it to begin mining.

In the same press release, it announced that the transfer of the Boulon licence to Burkina Faso had been completed and that a channel of lithium-bearing leucogranites had been identified as crossing one of the company’s gold licences.

Pending further information, Red Rock Resources PLC is a London-based natural resources development company focused on Africa and Australia.

According to Andrew Bell, Chairman of Red Rock Resources: “Zimbabwe is one of the top 10 producers of lithium, the largest producer in Africa, and is known for its high quality products”.

He added that this was an important step for Red Rock. The company was assessing the financial implications as the material was tested and as it further delineated the pegmatites within its licences.
