Orezone Bomboré: empowerment projects for women (weaving, vegetable growing, goat farming)

Vanessa Pickering, Head of Investor Relations, enjoyed a visit to the Orezone Bomboré mine site. Speaking to shareholders at the end of her visit, she said: “During my visit to Bomboré, I had the pleasure of visiting the local communities surrounding Bomboré to see first-hand some of the livelihood restoration initiatives we have been promoting.

During my visit, many community members approached our team asking if they could proudly show me the livelihood restoration projects that have been implemented. I saw many projects in action, such as weaving, growing vegetables and goat farming. I was delighted to see the extent to which the women’s association has become self-sufficient and enterprising thanks to its self-financed income-generating businesses.

Creating sustainable livelihood restoration programmes that will continue beyond the end of the mine’s life is a challenge. Working with our communities, our community team helps to identify new programme opportunities and cultivate their success through training, continuing education, funding and best practice.

Having a “skin in the game” is one of the ways that Orezone and our communities align so that we all thrive together. Our slogan Une Equipé/One Team is very fitting”.
