Leo Lithium company is developing a world-class lithium project at Goulamina in Mali. Goulamina is the next major lithium project to go into production. This hard rock project will be the first of its kind in West Africa. Goulamina will be one of the largest spodumene projects in the world. The initial development phases are under way, and first production is scheduled for the first semester of 2024.
This major project is largely financed. The project is being developed in a 50/50 partnership with Ganfeng, the world’s largest producer of lithium chemicals in terms of production capacity, which is providing financing, offtake and operational support to reduce development risk. Indeed, Ganfeng has provided 130 million USD in equity and a 40 million USD credit facility.
This large-scale deposit has a high grade. Its mineral resources are estimated at 142 million tonnes at 1.38% Li2O, with ore reserves of 52 million tonnes at 1.51% Li2O (1.9 million tonnes of LCE). Drilling is underway to increase current resources and reserves.
According to initial studies, it is a high quality spodumene concentrate with tests validating 6% Li2O with few impurities and having been successfully converted into battery grade lithium hydroxide.
