A number of precious metals and rocks are mined in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). But the country is being described as a geological scandal. According to the Congolese press agency, a chemical laboratory of the Centre for Expertise, Evaluation and Certification of Mineral Substances in the Democratic Republic of Congo (CEEC) was inaugurated on 27 June 2023 on the site of the Musompo trading centre, Mutshatsha territory, Lualaba province, by the Deputy National Minister of Mines.
This laboratory, equipped with materials and equipment to international standards, offers the possibility of analysing gas emissions from copper mining.
According to Deputy Minister Godard Motemona: “The launch of this laboratory will result in the collection of additional public revenue for the benefit of central, provincial and local authorities through the identification of mineral products in the products of artisanal and industrial miners”.
Indeed, Freddy Muamba Kanyinku, Managing Director, said that his organisation had just provided the DRC with an effective tool for the mining industry at all levels. “The diversity of ovens of different capacities in our possession enables us to carry out quality physical preparation in record time for samples of both crude ores and concentrated mineral substances. The laboratory is equipped with state-of-the-art chemical preparation equipment”.
The CEEC is a public certification authority. Its purpose is to assess, analyse, evaluate and certify precious and semi-precious mineral substances, coloured stones and precious, semi-precious, rare, ferrous and non-ferrous metals in the DRC.
