- To mine silver and lead
- As part of the Addana project
- Valid for three years, renewable
In a press release issued on Wednesday 28 June 2023, Canadian mining company Trigon Metals announced that it had been awarded 07 new exploration licences for silver and lead at the Addana project, located in the town of Tata in southern Morocco. The exploration permit for this polymetallic deposit, covering an area of 112 km2, has been obtained. The same press release states that the authorisations are valid for a renewable period of three years.
Tringon Metals states that it obtained these exploration licences as part of a reallocation of exploration permits in the Tata region, without disclosing the financial arrangements for these operations. The next stage will be exploration work, which will begin in six months’ time.
According to Trigon Metals CEO Jed Richardson: “The Addana project is another example of the potential for world-class projects in Morocco. The 07 permits include extensive artisanal workings that reveal the presence of silver-lead veins”.
As a reminder, Trigon Metals, which operates mines in Namibia, is not new to Morocco. Since 2020, it has been operating the Silver Hill silver and copper mine, a 16 km2 deposit in the Anti-Atlas region. The Group took over the operation of this mine at the end of May 2020, when it acquired from Moroccan group Technomine Africa, which owned 100% of the project.
