Fortuna Silver Mines, which operates the Bagassi (Yaramoko) mine in Burkina Faso, has published its production results for the second trimester of 2023. The release took place on 12 July 2023 in Vancouver, Canada. Fortuna Silver Mines Inc. is a Canadian precious metals company with 05 operating mines in Argentina, Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, Mexico and Peru.
Production up 4% on the second trimester of 2022
The publication shows that Fortuna produced the equivalent of 93,454 ounces of gold during the second trimester of 2023. This represents an increase of 4% compared with the second trimester of 2022. Fortuna expects to meet its 2023 annual production guidance.
Production highlights for the second trimester of 2023 are based on the start of production at the Séguéla mine in Côte d’Ivoire, which poured its first gold bar on 24 May. It produced 4,023 ounces during the second trimester. This production is due to be sold in July.
It was the start of production at this mine that boosted output during the period. Production at Séguéla offset lower output from the San Jose mine, which was affected by a 15-day strike by union workers in early June.
Yaramoko on track to reach top of annual guidance range
The Yaramoko mine produced 29,002 ounces in the second trimester, at an average grade of 6.51 grams per tonne, up on 2022. In addition to the increase in the grades extracted, there has been a rise in the quantities of ore milled. “The higher-than-expected grades are due to the extension of the deposit beyond the current resource limit on the western side of Zone 55,” the press release states. As a result, the company expects production from Yaramoko to be at the top end of the annual guidance range. In light of recent successes in discovering extensions of mineralisation at the margin of the Zone 55 resource boundary, the company expects to provide an update on mineral reserves and resources before the end of the year.
