Paul Weedon, Senior Vice President of Exploration at Fortuna Silver Mines Inc, has provided an update on the exploration programmes at the Séguéla mine in Côte d’Ivoire and the Yaramoko mine in Burkina Faso. The announcement was made in a press release dated 8 August 2023, published in Vancouver, Canada.
For Paul Weedon, in the case of Côte d’Ivoire, drilling on the Sunbird deposit to improve geological confidence has been completed. The next phase of estimation, optimisation and design has begun as part of the planned extension to the Séguéla mine. Positive near-surface results at Barana underline the regional potential of 90.9 grams per tonne. In the Barana and Badior zones of interest, 30 holes totalling 3,907 metres were drilled to test the lateral extent and continuity of the mineralisation identified in the first reconnaissance drilling programme. In addition, the drilling programme was designed to better understand the key structures associated with the controls on mineralisation, as well as the distribution of grades along the main structures. Further drilling is planned for late 2023. At the Yaramoko mine in Burkina Faso, Fortuna’s senior vice president of exploration said that recent drilling at the Yaramoko mine’s Zone 55 has identified high-grade mineralisation that extends at least 130 metres beyond the current resource envelope to the west, which has been confirmed by recent mine development in the area, with intervals such as 32.8 grams per tonne. “A successful drill programme of 29 holes for a total of 7,011 metres was completed at the Yaramoko mine, testing the lateral and vertical extent of the high-grade extensions of the Zone 55 mineralisation to the west, and testing the limited lateral extent to the lower eastern levels of the underground operation. Based on the positive exploration results, management expects to provide an updated mineral resource and mineral reserve estimate for the Yaramoko mine before the end of the year,” the press release said.
