On 11 August 2023, Guinea Conakry inaugurated a mineral sample analysis laboratory at Camp Balanta. With a capacity to process 360 samples a day, the laboratory is expected to strengthen and give credibility to the quality control of mining products before they are exported.

Built in the sub-prefecture of Kamsar, the new laboratory comprises a mechanical room housing crushers and disc mills, as well as other accessories; a room for preparing bauxite samples on pallets; an analysis room; a room for certifying analysis results; and a storage warehouse. The opening of this laboratory should enable mining companies around Kamsar to use only the Conakry laboratory.

The Director General of the National Geology Laboratory, Wodia Magassouba, says that the laboratory has a processing capacity of 360 samples per day, and innovations are underway to increase the number of samples per day. “We, the national geology laboratory, are concerned about the quality of our services, and have begun the ISO 17025 process to increase the capacity of this geology laboratory at Camp Balanta, given its geographical position,” she said. At the same time, she announced that the laboratory would shortly be installing and commissioning a high-capacity spectrometer, two thermogravimetric analysers, a TGA 820 and two bead blasters. All this for you, our mining partners, to keep you satisfied.

For Bachir Camara, Secretary General of the Ministry of Mines and Geology, representing his minister, this laboratory will receive all the support it needs to collect data on the quality of resources. He added that the Quantity and Quality Valuation Office (Bureau des Évaluateurs Quantités et Qualité – BEQQ) should be working to provide minerals in terms of quality and quantity.

As a reminder, the operationalisation of the laboratory was made possible thanks to a synergy of action between the Ministry of Mines and Geology through the General Directorate of the National Geology Laboratory, with the collaboration of the General Directorate of Customs and the support of the company RUSAL EMG S.A.
