In a press release issued on 21 August 2023 by its mine management, the Ivorian-based Australian mining company Mako Gold Limited announced the discovery of a major manganese deposit in the north of Côte d’Ivoire.
According to the press release quoting Mako Gold Limited’s Managing Director, Peter Ledwidge, the discovery is the result of drilling at Ouangolodougou and confirms the possibility of a manganese discovery of “global significance”. We are extremely excited by the results of our very first drilling programme on the Korhogo project to test for the presence of manganese,” he said.
The press release notes that the searches ended with mineralisation, indicating that there could be more manganese at depth. «Eight of the ten holes we drilled over the combined interpreted length of 14 km intersected manganese, » said Peter Ledwidge, adding that these results confirm a potential manganese discovery of “global significance”.
According to Peter Ledwidge, the next stage is already known and will consist of “a geophysical survey to assess the width and depth”, he says.
