DRC: Gold production up 11% in the first half of 2023

In the first half of 2023, gold production in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) stood at 14.816 tonnes, compared with 13.336 tonnes in the first half of 2022. The Ministry of Mines, which published this information, notes an increase of 1.480 kg, or 11%. The statistics published on 28 August 2023 take into account production zones and types of operation.

In the first half of 2023, total gold production in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) amounted to 14.816 tonnes, compared with 13.336 tonnes in the first half of 2022. This represents a fall of 11% between the 2 periods. The DRC’s Ministry of Mines reports that gold production is still dominated by industrial mining, mainly in Haut-Uélé Province, while artisanal mining is scattered across almost all the country’s provinces.

Kibali Gold accounted for most of the 14,816 tonnes of gold produced in the first half of 2023. The main producing provinces are Ituri, Bas-Uélé, Sud-Kivu, Maniema, Tanganyika, Haut-Uélé, Tshopo, Nord-Kivu, Kongo Central and Nord-Ubangi.

Total exports for the period generated 677.396 million USD. Artisanal mining accounted for 120,384 million USD of this total, while industrial mining generated 557,011 million USD. Exports come from Kinshasa.
