The Ministry of Energy, Mines and Quarries, through the technical secretariat for local content and investment promotion, has organized sector meetings on local supply in the mining sector, which ended this Thursday, September 7, 2023 in Ouagadougou. These meetings, which began on August 29, 2023, were organized with the support of the umbrella organizations of certain business sectors, with the aim of enabling the national private sector to respond effectively to the needs of mining companies in terms of local supply of mining goods and services, in compliance with current regulations.
Thanks to these meetings, various stakeholders such as local suppliers, mining company umbrella organizations and mining administration executives were able to familiarize themselves with the texts in force on local content and propose solutions to improve the competitiveness of local suppliers of goods and services.
According to Jean-Baptiste Kaboré, Secretary General of the Ministry of Mines, the difficulties outlined by stakeholders will be taken into account to support national suppliers.
These series of meetings were organized in partnership with the Alliance burkinabè des Fournisseurs de Biens et services and the Chamber of Commerce. They ended with a face-to-face meeting between financial institutions and insurers, in the presence of mining stakeholders. The financial institutions and insurers discussed a wide range of issues, including easier access to financing for national companies to strengthen their contracts with mining companies.
