“Burkina Faso has mining resources such as graphite and lithium, which can be used to manufacture batteries for electric vehicles”. This was the answer given by Simon-Pierre Boussim, Minister of Energy, Mines and Quarries, at a press conference held on 12 September 2023 to the question of whether Burkina Faso has the mining resources needed to manufacture batteries for electric vehicles. The press conference focused on 2 subjects, one of which was the rearrangement of tariffs for energy consumption by SONABEL’s large customers, and the electric charging points for electric vehicles.
According to Simon-Pierre Boussim: “Research has not been carried out to determine the content. This research is expensive (…) we are waiting for investors to carry out this research and to proceed with exploitation”.
