In a 173-page book, Ag Ibrahim Mohamed profiles 49 women who work for the Essakane mine. They are geologists, chemists, drivers and metallurgists at the Essakane mine, and have demonstrated competitiveness and rigour, according to the author. ”Les pépites d’Essakane” is a tribute to the women who have combined their social and professional lives through their work, and who are producing remarkable results in the midst of men, said Ag Ibrahim Mohamed.

Ag Ibrahim Mohamed worked for a dozen years in the communications department of the Essakane mine, where he ran the company’s KIBARU newsletter. Ag Ibrahim Mohamed is currently Managing Director of the Private Press Support Fund (Fond d’Appui à la Presse Privée – FAPP).

Dr Dramane Konaté, representing the Minister for Communication and Culture, praised the book, which sheds light on women whose leadership in a field where few women are involved. He urged Ag Ibrahim Mohamed not to stop there in this literary adventure.

Doctor Aïcha Tamboura Diawara, the book’s prefatory author, invited the ministry responsible for women’s affairs to promote “Les pépites d’Essakane” in view of its content, and the ministry responsible for education to promote it by providing libraries in educational establishments so that pupils, particularly girls, can draw inspiration from successful models.

“Les pépites d’Essakane”, published by the Mercury bookshop in Burkina Faso, was signed by the author’s family, friends and many other writers. It sells for 5,000 FCFA.
