Over 2000 participants expected

After three (03) years of suspension, it was necessary [1] this year to relaunch this important event, the West African Mining Week (Semaine des Activités Minières d’Afrique de l’Ouest – SAMAO) [1]. Indeed, the event has been postponed several times since its last edition in 2019, mainly because of the COVID-19 pandemic, but also because of the deteriorating security situation. Today, SAMAO has established itself as a world-class event thanks to the enthusiasm [1] it generates with each edition. It is an important tool for promoting and developing the mining sector. Now in its 5th year, the West African Mining Week (SAMAO) will bring together [1] more than two thousand (2000) participants made up of experts, investors, researchers and visitors from a variety of backgrounds at the Ouaga 2000 International Conference Centre from 28 to 30 September 2023. The theme chosen for this year’s event is “Mining in Africa: what strategy for impacting the development of local economies?” From this main theme, several subthemes [1] will be developed by experts. These include: – the transformation of mining products in Africa; – strategies for promoting the local supply of goods and services to local mining companies; – local content policies in African countries; – the development of strategies to increase African expertise in the extractive industries value chain; – strategies for adding value to the products of the quarrying sub-sector, with a view to making a greater contribution to national economies and reducing unemployment; – financing of mining projects by national companies; – security issues, attractiveness and competitiveness of the mining sector. B2B meetings, exhibitions and visits to a mining site and a quarry are also [1] on the programme for this year’s event. The National Organising Committee has taken all the necessary steps to ensure the success of this year’s SAMOA. As Chairman of the National Organising Committee (NOC) for this year’s SAMOA, I would like to thank the members of the Organising Committee for all their hard work. I would also like to express my gratitude to the sponsors, the mining companies and their subcontractors, the companies, the moderators, the communicators, the panellists, the guests and the resource persons whose many and varied contributions have made it possible to hold this event[1]. I would also like to reiterate my thanks to our collaborators, both inside and outside the company, in particular the technical and financial partners, the press, stakeholders in the mining and quarrying sector and civil society organisations active in the sector, who have spared no effort to support our department in achieving its objectives.
