Orezone Bomboré produced 30,726 ounces of gold (approximately one tonne) in the 3d trimester 2023, totalling year-to-date production of 107,509oz of gold (approximately 3.5 tonnes). The company sold 29,167oz at an average price of 1,910 USD per ounce of gold, for sales of 55.7 million USD (around 33.5 billion FCFA). The announcement of these results was made in a press release issued on 5 October 2023 in Vancouver, Canada by Orezone Gold Corporation to present the third trimester 2023 production results from its Bomboré gold mine, located in Burkina Faso.
Patrick Downey, President and CEO, said: “Third trimester production exceeded our expectations, with higher than expected extraction and processing rates during the rain season. This is a testament to the Bomboré operating team’s experience and operational readiness, as extracting and processing oxidised material in wet conditions can be challenging. With the third trimester rainy season behind us and a favourable outlook for the fourth trimester, Orezone remains well positioned to reach the lower end of its 2023 guidance of 140,000-155,000oz.”
Significant progress was also made in the third trimester of 2023 on connecting Bomboré to the electricity grid. All tower foundations have been completed and more than 50% of the towers installed. The project is on time and on budget, with energisation scheduled for the end of 2023. Once connected, Bomboré’s operating costs and carbon footprint will be significantly reduced.
Orezone Gold Corporation is a Canadian mining company that operates the Bomboré open-pit gold mine in Burkina Faso. In Phase I of the project, Orezone is focusing on surface mining and processing, with a planned annual throughput of 5.7 million tonnes. The company believes that Bomboré has significant underlying hard rock resources to support a much larger Phase II expansion.
“Orezone is led by an experienced team, focused on social responsibility and sustainability, with a proven track record in project construction and operations, financing, capital markets and mergers and acquisitions,” according to the statement released by the company.
The company expects to publish the results of the Bomboré phase II expansion and the updated mine life study during the week of 8 October.
