On 10 October 2023, the mining company IAMGOLD Essakane SA handed over computers to 9 schools in the Sahel region. The official handover ceremony took place on the Essakane mine site in the presence of the chairmen of the special delegations of Falagountou and Dori and Denis Doucet, Director of Operations and representative of the CEO of Iamgold Essakane SA.

A total of 90 computers have been donated to 09 schools in the Sahel region, including 07 lycées (Gorom-Gorom, Korizéna, Falagountou, Dori, Markoye) and 2 Collèges (Falagountou, Essakane site). Denis Doucet commented: “Through this donation, Iamgold Essakane SA is helping to train and supervise pupils in the host communities in information and communication technologies. It is helping to modernise the administration of these establishments by digitising them, and is thus providing these educational structures with a computer system for student research and learning”, he added.

For the beneficiaries of the day, this donation comes at just the right time, as it will enable pupils to start the year in good conditions. Ardjima Dambina, headmaster of the Essakane site college, thanked the donor, pointing out that the teaching of information technology has now been introduced as a subject in schools. The chairman of the Dori special delegation, Abdramane Mandé, also expressed his gratitude to the mine for all its actions in favour of community development.

In addition to its contribution to the Local Development Mining Fund, Iamgold Essakane SA provides direct support to the host communities through initiatives such as a special internship programme for young people from the region known as IamEndal, and a programme of power tillers for the affected communities.
