With the start of the new school year, Ity Mining Company (Société des Mines d’Ity – SMI) has donated 91 school kits to schoolchildren in villages affected by its activities.
The kits, worth 5.5 million CFA francs, consist of bags, clothing, exercise books, books, pens and pencils. The kits are intended to provide parents with some relief at the start of the new school year. The ceremony took place in the presence of the Banneu sub-prefect, Fabrice Daha, and the Director General of Ity Mines, Clinton Benett.
As a reminder, the Ity mine is an open-cast gold mine located in the Zouan Hounien department in the west of the country. It is the country’s oldest active gold mine. It is operated by Endeavour Mining. By the end of 2022, it had produced around 8 tonnes of gold.
