The JSK Sanbrado Mining Company (Societe Des Mines De Sanbrado – SOMISA) has announced that, for the second year running, it has offered university scholarships to two recipients for the 2023-2024 academic year. SOMISA is operated by West African Resources. Under the scholarship programme, 02 recipients are selected each year.
This year’s scholarships were awarded to two high school students, Sylvie Zabda and Sakourou Tiendrebeogo. The scholarships cover tuition fees, study materials, access to mentors and future internships within the company. “The 02 scholarship recipients are enrolled at the Université Aube Nouvelle in Ouagadougou and will be studying applied geology and mining,” says the mine.

West African Resources promotes knowledge and education in its operating areas. Previous education initiatives include the construction of primary schools in Sanbrado, Silmiougou and Roulghin. It has provided school kits, support for adult literacy programmes, financial support for vocational training for young people, women and other community members, and an internship programme. West African Resources has also provided solar power to 05 schools, allowing the space to be used both for children to study during the day, but also at night for adult classes such as French and literacy courses.
