On Friday 10 November 2023, Iamgold Essakane SA donated a batch of dengue testing kits and other medicines to the Zone 1 Health and social protection centres (Centre de santé et de protection sociale – CSPS), with a view to giving the local population of Essakane site access to dengue diagnostic tests during the current epidemic period. Sansan Palé, Head Nurse, representing the District Chief Medical Officer, and Mona Traoré, from the Essakane Village Development Council office, received the donation from Franck Napon, Health, Safety and Sustainable Development Director at Iamgold Essakane SA.
For Iamgold Essakane SA, this donation worth more than 6 million FCFA is in line with its vision of sharing the revenues generated by its mining operations with stakeholders. Above all, it aims to contribute to the company’s efforts to prevent and treat cases of dengue fever in the area. In addition to the screening kits, other types of medicines and medical consumables were also provided. It is also a response to the shortage of medicines in the area’s health centres.
On behalf of the local population, the representatives of the beneficiaries expressed their gratitude to Iamgold Essakane, which is a good corporate citizen and knows how to respond to the concerns of the local population in particular. They recalled all the contributions made by this company to the well-being, health, employability and development of the geographical area of their health and social promotion centre in particular, and of the province of Oudalan in general.
It should also be noted that a few months earlier, in April, CSPSs and medical centres in the Sahel region were supplied with medicines worth 127 million FCFA.
