0

On 4 December 3023, the Ministry of Energy, Mines and Quarries validated its code of ethics and professional conduct at a workshop organised for this purpose.

The workshop, chaired by Simon Pierre Boussim, Minister for Energy, Mines and Quarries, was organised by his ministry’s Technical Services Inspectorate (Inspection Technique des Services – ITS). The drafting and validation of codes of ethics and professional conduct within ministries and institutions is part of the implementation of the Prime Minister’s instruction.

This code establishes rules and is presented as a consensual tool that promotes the values of ethics and good governance in order to establish mutual trust between the various structures and the citizens. “This framework document will enable the Department of Energy, Mines and Quarries to build cohesion and harmony between the players in the mining sector. It will also make it possible to get rid of the ills that are undermining its economic and social development” Oumarou Mandé, Inspector of Services at the Ministry of Energy, Mines and Quarries.

According to Minister Simon Pierre Boussim: “This paradigm shift was imposed in part because of the growing demands of citizens, who are attached to the values and principles of equity, justice and transparency in the management of public affairs”.

At the end of this workshop, the ministry should have a tool to guide the individual and collective behaviour of the department’s staff. Overall, the aim will be to ensure that each employee knows how to behave in order to deliver a quality public service, with a view to continuously improving the quality and productivity of the public service. This tool will make it possible to fight corruption effectively by codifying individual and collective behaviour, reinforcing the culture of secrecy in the public service in the interests of the nation”, explained Simon-Pierre Boussim.

While thanking the various stakeholders who participated in the drafting of this code, Minister Boussim hopes that all employees will recognise themselves in this document. He invited them to make it their own.
