Gabon’s Minister of Mines, Hervé Patrick Opiangah, received the Managing Director of mining company Havillah Consolidated Resources, Dr Gabriel Kamga, on Wednesday 13 December 2023. Dr Kamga came to assess the progress of prospecting at the Milingui site (located in Tchibanga, Nyanga province), where the exploitation phase is about to begin.
The project to exploit the Milingui iron ore deposit is well advanced. The feasibility study has already been carried out. Havilah Consolidated Resources company is currently carrying out the environmental impact study, in collaboration with the environmental department. After this phase, the company should obtain the approval of the Ministry of Mines for the practical phase of exploitation.
The Minister of Mines took the opportunity to ask for more technical details in order to better understand the level of investment envisaged by this company. He then asked the head of Havilah to hold a working session with technicians from the Ministry of Mines so that they could visit the site to assess the progress of the project and the mining company’s compliance with its commitments.
According to Dr Gabriel Kamga, there will be undeniable benefits for the surrounding communities. A large local workforce has already been hired, and this is set to increase as the company moves into the exploitation phase.
