Boosting the morale of the troops and touching the hearts of all is the aim of the performance of “Les larmes des armes” (“The Tears of Weapons”) at the Gal Sangoulé Lamizana military camp. The performance takes place this Thursday 21 December 2023 in the presence of the Minister of State for Defence, General Kassoum Coulibaly, and many of the fighting forces.
After the residents and staff of the Prytanée Militaire du Kadiogo (PMK), it was the fighting forces, including the Defence and Security Forces (Forces de Défense et de Sécurité – FDS) and the Volunteers for the Defence of the Homeland (Volontaires pour la défense de la patrie – VDP), who benefited from the presentation of the play “Les larmes des armes”. Noting their satisfaction after the show, the Minister of State noted that in view of the message conveyed, the performance should take place in military barracks for the benefit of the fighting forces. “The message cannot leave anyone indifferent. “It’s best to do everything possible to get the message across in our barracks,” said Gal Kassoum Coulibaly. Based on the poem, “Les larmes des armes” (The Tears of Arms) retraces our realities and also provides solutions on how to overcome these realities. For him, the play is one of the acts that should strengthen our resilience. He invited all the spectators and the people of Burkina Faso to focus on the essentials, instead of concentrating on small internal quarrels,” concluded the Minister for Defence and Veterans.

Canada’s ambassador, Lee-Anne Hermann, said that Casting Sud’s project had received funding from Canada’s annual Local Initiative Fund. “We have an annual fund for local initiatives, and Casting Sud was one of the applicants. The message conveyed is an important one – social cohesion, peace, resilience, among other things – and it’s an interesting play,” she explained. For her, there is a need for many people to be able to see “the tears of arms” in terms of the message conveyed and the ways in which the message is conveyed.

Georgette Paré, Secretary General of Casting Sud, said that “Tears of Arms” was born at the suggestion of the Ministry of Communication, Arts and Tourism. “The ministry advised us to think about creating works that promote social cohesion and peace”, she said. According to her, this performance is intended to be a message that will galvanise the troops and try to touch people’s hearts. “It’s our weapon, and it’s about time we contributed to the war effort and the peace effort,” says Georgette Paré.
