Perseus Mining Limited group held a press conference on 12 December 2023 to present the start of work on the Yaouré underground mine. Work is scheduled to start in the first trimester of 2024. The underground mine will extend the life of the Yaouré mine until 2036, and produce an additional 17 tonnes of gold, bringing planned production to 73 tonnes. An investment of 3.5 billion FCFA is planned for the communities affected. An additional 222 direct jobs will be created.
The conference was hosted by Jeff Quartermine, CEO of Perseus Mining Limited. He was joined by communications director Melanie Pollard d’Aboville, financial officer Lee-Anne de Bruin and country general manager Diarra Yacouba.
The Minister of Mines was represented by Seydou Coulibaly, representing the Minister of Mines and members of the Professional association of Ivory Coast miners (Groupement professionnel des Miniers de Côte d’Ivoire – GPMCI).
