According to the 2021 report of the Côte d’Ivoire Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI-CI), the extractive sector contributed 435.95 billion FCFA to the national budget in 2021, compared with 389.86 billion FCFA in 2020, an increase of 46.09 billion FCFA. The sector brought in 5.96% of budget revenue, compared with 6.32% in 2020. It created 0.54% of jobs in 2021. The sector’s contribution to GDP in 2021 was 4.1%, compared with 4.6% in 2020. The sector’s exports will account for 15.02% of the country’s total exports in 2021, compared with 15.38% in 2020.

In 2021, Cote d’Ivoire produced 39.5 tonnes of industrial gold. It also produced nickel, granite, diamonds, silver, manganese, gas, oil, etc.

The data contained in the EITI-Côte d’Ivoire report concerns the 2021 calendar year of the validated Ivorian extractive sector. They were collected from public entities and extractive companies. A detailed breakdown of the rates of change by sector shows that payments in the oil and gas sector have risen by 18.5% compared with 2020, mainly due to the increase in crude oil prices, which are expected to rise by around 70% in 2021. For its part, the mining sector has seen an overall increase of around 5%. This increase is the result of improved mining production and the commissioning of the Yaouré gold mine in January 2021.

The report also made recommendations for better contributions in the coming years.

The Côte d’Ivoire EITI has invited the Directorate General of Mines and Geology and the Directorate General of Customs to strengthen controls on gold exports and to study the inclusion of artisanal activity within the scope of the EITI. The report recommends that the Directorate General of Mines and Geology should ensure that mining production data is complete and that the legal provisions for rehabilitating mining sites are complied with. For the Ivory Coast National Oil Company, the EITI-Cote d’Ivoire Committee report calls for the implementation of an anti-corruption management system.
