Mali’s Minister of Mines, Amadou Keita, opened a workshop on Tuesday 16 January 2024 to discuss the application of the mining code and the law on local content. Amadou Keita urged everyone to be assiduous in examining these texts in detail so that they can be applied.
For 72 hours, players in the mining sector will be examining the various texts implementing the new mining code and the law on local content. Participants will be examining how to improve these texts so that they can be implemented in a spirit of dialogue and consensus, which is vital to the smooth running of the mining sector.

After several mining codes aimed at attracting investors and consolidating Mali’s position as a leading gold-producing country, on 29 August 2023 Mali’s Head of State, Colonel Assami Goïta, promulgated a new mining code designed to ensure that the population benefits more from the exploitation of mining resources. According to the Malian authorities in charge of mining, this new code is based on a win-win partnership with diversification and extension of mining to other minerals other than gold.
