Evariste Ouédraogo has been promoted to the position of warehouse and inventory superintendent in the logistics department of the Bissa Gold mine.
Evariste joined Bissa in 2012 as a storekeeper. In 2016, he was promoted to warehouse manager, and in 2018 he was appointed to the position of stock manager. Then later in 2019, he took the position of shop supervisor.
Bissa Gold is a mine operated by Nordgold. Its site is located about 100 km from Ouagadougou, on the Ouaga-Kongoussi axis.
The mine employs 1,385 people, 563 of whom, or 40.6%, come from the affected localities, including 360 from Sabsé, 76 from Mané, 62 from Kongoussi, 30 from Guibaré, 17 from Kaya, etc. These statistics do not take into account the many workers from subcontracting companies.
Bissa Gold pays an average of 14 billion CFA francs in taxes per year to the state budget, including 500 million CFA francs in dividends, representing the state’s 10% share in the capital.
In addition to the national budget, Bissa Gold contributes to the budgets of the communes. In 2022 alone, the three impacted communes (Sabsé, Guibaré and Mané) received 1.177 billion CFA francs in patents.
The mine’s contribution to local development also concerns the 1.712 surface taxes paid by the mine to the state in 2021, which benefited the communes. In addition, these communes receive a significant share of the revenue from the mining fund for local development.
