The National Publish What You Pay (PWYP) Coalition is organising a training workshop on women’s leadership in the governance of the extractive industries sector. The training aims to build the capacity of women and men activists in civil society organisations to engage them more in the monitoring of the governance of the extractive industries sector in order to allow for special attention in the consideration of women in the exploitation of natural resources (gold, diamond, oil, gas, etc.).

After the presentation on the legal framework of the mining sector in Burkina Faso, it was time for the presentation on the theme: ” #Local content in the mining sector in Burkina Faso: Opportunities for local women’s businesses”.
The presentation outlined the legal and institutional framework for local content in Burkina Faso, reviewed the current reform of local content and then outlined the opportunities for local businesses, particularly women’s businesses. The constraints to be overcome in order to have access to markets were presented.
The final module to be developed is on advocacy techniques to influence decisions to achieve the civil society objective.

The aim of the training is also to ensure that the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) in Burkina Faso has a positive impact on female citizens, while ensuring compliance with the gender requirements of the EITI 2019 Standard.
This training is being held as part of the implementation of the project “Project to promote gender equality in the governance of the mining sector in Burkina Faso”. The project is being implemented by PWYP International and the PWYP coalitions of the Republic of Guinea, Burkina Faso and Senegal.
One of the activities of the project, which has already been completed, is the evaluation of the implementation of the EITI Standard – 2019 Requirements on Gender Consideration in the EITI Process in Burkina Faso since the adoption of the Standard – 2019.
