On Thursday, February 26, the Sanbrado mine welcomed a delegation composed of two administrators representing the State on the Board of Directors of Somisa, namely Ms. Eliane Djiguemde, representative of the Ministry of Economy and Finance, and Mr. Oussou Zampou, from the Ministry of Energy, Mines, and Quarries. Having been in office for two and one year respectively, they came to familiarize themselves with the reality of the mining site, which they had previously only known through documents.

After a welcome speech by Mr. Phil Venter, Director General of Operations, the visitors were given an induction followed by presentations on the mine, Community Relations, and Environment.

The five-hour visit allowed them to explore various aspects of the operation, including the plant, the Camp, the Geology, the M5N pit in operation (open pit mine), and the Boxcut (entrance to the M1S underground mine). The day ended with a debriefing in the administrative offices.

The administrators left satisfied with the welcome they received, the discussions during the presentations, and what they were able to observe in the field in such a short time. They expressed their desire to make such visits more frequently and thanked SOMISA’s management for the transparency it has shown in its efforts to become a model of excellence in industrial mining.
