- Suspension in order to improve the issuing and monitoring of mining titles
- Burkina Faso has suspended the receipt of applications for mining titles and authorisations since the beginning of 2022
The Minister of Mines, Energy and Water of Mali informs the actors and operators of the mining sector of the suspension of the attribution of mining titles throughout the Malian territory and this from 28 November 2022. This information was made public in a communiqué dated 28 November 2022.
This suspension is part of the work undertaken to improve the delivery and monitoring of mining titles to better serve the actors of the mining sector. As of 28 November 2022: “No application for mining titles will be received or processed by the competent services of the Ministry”, according to the communiqué.
The Ministry of Mines, Energy and Water informs that the lifting of the suspension will be the subject of a subsequent communiqué at the appropriate time.
As a reminder, Burkina Faso has suspended the reception of files for the granting of mining titles and authorisations since the beginning of 2022. In a press release dated 3 May 2022, the Ministry of Mines and Quarries informed that “measures are being taken to reopen the mining cadastre so that applications for mining titles and authorisations can be submitted in a calm manner”.
In September 2022, the Minister in charge of mines at that time, Jean Alphonse Somé, chaired a meeting on the clean-up of the mining cadastre at the General Directorate of the Mining Cadastre. This work involved a cleaning up of the data on mining titles and authorisations on the eMC+ management platform which has been online since 16 April 2018. The update also concerned the dates of granting and validity of the titles, the digitisation and archiving of the documents, the identification of the perimeters having been the subject of titles at the end of exceptional renewal for the materialisation of the latter in view of a proposal for classification, the audit of the mining cadastre computer system, etc. The suspension measure will be lifted at the end of the work.
