The mining company Iamgold Essakane SA signed on Monday 19 December 2022 an agreement with the National Office for Road Safety (ONASER). The purpose of the agreement is to carry out an awareness campaign on road safety during the holiday season. The campaign will continue throughout the year 2023.

The financial contribution of the Essakane SA mine amounts to 100 million FCFA.
For the General Manager of Iamgold Essakane SA, Tidiane Barry: “This support is in line with the promotion of health and safety, which is a culture of Iamgold Essakane SA”. The campaign will focus on the production, display and dissemination of awareness messages on the use of helmets on motorbikes, the need to wear seat belts in cars, respect for the highway code, the risks of using a telephone while driving, the risks of driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs, the risks of tiredness while driving, etc.

For the Director General of ONASER, Mr. Evariste Méda, Iamgold Essakane SA is a corporate citizen who is committed to supporting his structure to reverse the trends of mortality related to traffic accidents. He praised the clear-sightedness, patriotism and citizenship of this mining company in meeting the challenges of road safety in Burkina Faso. He pledged to spare no effort to ensure that the results expected from this collaboration are convincing.
