The fuel depot at the Bissa-Bouly mine is the responsibility of the contractor #Road_Energy under the supervision of the mine’s Logistics Department.
In charge of the supply, storage and distribution of HFO and LFO on site, Road Energy is subject to regular inspection visits, organised by the mine’s management to ensure compliance of operations.
Indeed, the fuel depot is a risk area with two major risks, namely the risk of fire and the risk of oil spills. It therefore represents a serious concern in terms of occupational health and safety.
The purpose of the “Walk the Talk” inspection missions, led by General Manager Philip Engelbrecht and the mine’s HSE manager, is to ensure that the installations are well maintained, that the fire-fighting system is in place and that the settling tanks and retention basins are functional.
At the end of the inspections, comments and recommendations are made to the contractor for continued improvement of its operations, although satisfactory, at the Bissa-Bouly site.
