- Objective of the hearing, to present the structure to the Minister
- To present the recommendations of the public conference on securing mines
On Wednesday 01 February 2023, a delegation from the Burkinabe Mining, Geology and Quarry Council (CBMGC) was received in audience by the Minister of Energy, Mines and Quarries, Simon Pierre Boussim.

The purpose of this visit was not only to present the structure to the Minister of Energy, Mines and Quarries, but also to share with him the conclusions of the public conference organised by the CBMGC in partnership with the newspaper Mines-actu.net on 18 November 2022 under the theme: “The mining sector faced with the security challenge: State of play and prospects“.
The CBMCG delegation was led by its Vice President, Cyrille Constant Bambara. The CBMGC is a professional organisation whose main objective is to promote the protection and defence of the material, moral and professional interests of the mining, geology and quarrying industry. It intends to support the government in the ongoing reforms for the good of Burkina Faso.
According to the Executive Director of the CBMGC, Elie Kaboré: “The Minister was very attentive. He especially appreciated this model of dialogue.
He positively appreciated this model of dialogue. An organisation that carries out an activity and submits recommendations to the authority that will analyse them and consider taking them into account”.

During the hearing, there was a wish to have an eye on the quarry sector. On this issue, the CBMGC plans to carry out reflections on the issue of quarries before the end of 2023 and to pass on the conclusions at the ministry level.
The recommendations of the public conference included the organisation of a meeting on the mining sector, bringing together all the actors, better security for closed mines with a view to their reopening and security for sites in production. Recommendations are made for the protection of the environment through progressive rehabilitation because closed sites contribute to environmental degradation.
The CBMGC also called for the effective operationalisation of the National Office for the Security of Mining Sites (ONASSIM) so that it can play its role in securing mining sites. It proposes to use the mining fund for local development to resolve the humanitarian crisis in communes with security deficits.
