  • Supply is the combination of purchasing and storage

The students of the second promotion of the Master specialized in Supply Chain and Purchasing Management organized a public conference on Thursday, February 16, 2023 in Ouagadougou. With the theme “Optimization strategy of mine supplies: consignment stock”, this public conference aimed to allow participants to learn about the functioning of consignment stock, its advantages, the difficulties encountered and how to remedy them.

This master is organized by the Ecole burkinabè des Affaires (EBA), a training school of the Chamber of Commerce in partnership with Toulouse Business School (TBS). It is a response to the problem of qualified manpower in Burkina Faso through the provision of professional training.

According to the Director for Professional Training at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Burkina Faso, Herman Garé: “This is a training course initiated by the Chamber of Commerce through its school and in partnership with Toulouse Business School”. He stressed his pride in their students who are 32 and who give themselves despite their professional life.

The latter declared in particular that their ambition is to put at the disposal of the economy of Burkina Faso, a human resource and qualified personnel.

Impact of consignment in the mining sector

Consignment is a business action in which a company agrees to deposit merchandise for a value that can be recovered. Whereas supply is the combination of purchase and storage.

In the consignment procedure, the store is of paramount importance because it is at the center of the mine’s operation. The mine operates day and night, hence the need for good management of the supply of protective equipment, reagents, spare parts, etc.

The supplier delivers goods to the consignment warehouse. The goods remain the property of the supplier until they are collected by the customer.

According to one of the speakers at the public conference, Yago Hervé, their inventory and supply analyst: “Nowadays, in the majority of mines in Burkina Faso, consignment is the management method that is being used more and more”.

There are several risks when a mine does not use consignment stock including product obsolescence, stock outs, etc.

There are several factors that govern consignment. These include product selection, store identification, setting consignment conditions, training of personnel to monitor and evaluate consignment stock.
