On Friday 17 March 2023, the installation ceremony of the new Secretary General of the Ministry of Energy, Mines and Quarries, Jean Baptiste Kabore, took place. The ceremony was presided over by the Minister of Energy, Mines and Quarries, Simon Pierre Boussim.

Simon Pierre Boussim in his speech did not miss to congratulate the Secretary General, Moïse Ouédraogo. After thanking his collaborators, the latter was delighted with the adoption of the new organisation chart. He listed a certain number of paths, notably the rereading of certain texts, which his successor will work on implementing. He also recalled that beyond the quality of the texts, what is important is the staff: “That is why the staff training budget is estimated at 200 million. But this sum is relatively small given the sector of activity which requires specific training,” he said.

Following Moise Ouédraogo, the new Secretary General assured his commitment to the exercise of his attributions to work for the improvement of working conditions. He maintained that “the action of instilling a new dynamic does not mean making a clean sweep of what you have found, but adapting the means to a possibly dynamic context”.

He recalled that many challenges await all staff, especially the energy staff: “In the immediate future, measures must be envisaged to support SONABEL”.

He asked for the support of his colleagues: “We must make sure that we meet these challenges. My mission cannot be successful if I do not have the precious support of all the staff”.

For Jean Baptiste Kaboré, the central administration currently has 501 agents, 60% of whom are under 40 years old. He reassured the minister that he would work with honesty and abnegation.

As a reminder, Jean Baptiste Kaboré was formerly General Director of the Promotion of the Energy and Mining Economy (DGPEEM) since April 2021. He was also technical advisor to the Minister in charge of Energy, General Director of the Electrification Development Fund (FDE), Financial and Accounting Director (DFC) of the National Electricity Company of Burkina (SONABEL).
