– Out of a total of 25,436,046,316.80 FCFA collected between July and December 2022

– 12 billion FCFA retained for the war effort

– Beneficiaries: the 13 regions and 351 communes of Burkina Faso

– Objective: to enable communities impacted by mining to benefit directly from the benefits of mining

On Thursday 23 March 2023 in Ouagadougou, the distribution committee of the Local Development Mining Fund (LDMF) for the benefit of the communes and regions of Burkina Faso met to distribute the LDMF for the 2nd semester of the year 2022.

Established in the 2015 Mining Code, the LDMF aims to enable local communities to benefit directly from the spin-offs of mining.

On the occasion of this meeting, the Specialised Collector of the Ministry of Energy, Mines and Quarries, Clarisse Virginie Konkobo, gave an update on the funds collected for the 2nd semester of the year 2022. These are in the order of 25,436,046,316.80 FCFA which were collected between July and December 2022 from the holders of mining exploitation titles (1% of the turnover of mining and quarrying companies) and the contribution of the State (20% of royalties). Of this sum, 12,038,410,596 FCFA were retained for the Patriotic Support Fund. The present distribution will concern the remaining 13,397,635,719.87 FCFA. The beneficiaries of this sum are the 13 regions and 351 communes of Burkina Faso.

In order to ensure an equitable distribution, a committee has been set up which includes several actors from the public administration and civil society. In this regard, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Energy, Mines and Quarries, Jean-Baptiste Kaboré, stressed that: “It is a question of ensuring the proper distribution of the LDMF resources collected in the 2nd semester of 2022 for the benefit of all the communes and regions of Burkina Faso”.

Several days will be necessary for the committee to, among other things, assess the state’s contributions to the LDMF for the 2nd semester of 2022 and proceed with the distribution to beneficiaries.

But Jean-Baptiste Kaboré reassured the members of the distribution committee that the recommendations that will be made during the work will be taken into account.
