- 16 Chinese nationals from the Chinese company Xing Jiang Mining arrested
The Ministry of Mines of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has suspended the mining activities of the Chinese company Xing Jiang Mining in the territory of Basoko. According to our colleagues from Radio Okapi, on Tuesday 11 April 2023, a delegation led by the provincial minister of mines, Annelle Kamba, visited the site. The provincial minister, Annelle Kamba, accused the company of having engaged in the illegal exploitation of minerals when it did not have the right to do so.
According to the latter: «the Chinese company Xing Jiang Mining had a research permit, but no exploitation permit. Unfortunately we realised that this company was exploiting the minerals. That is why we called it illegal exploitation». She also reassured the local population of the determination of the provincial authorities to implement the ministerial decision suspending all activities of the Chinese company Xing Jiang Mining.
The delegation arrested and returned 16 Chinese employees and managers of the Chinese company Xing Jiang Mining to Kisangani.
