Burkina Faso: Towards the reopening of the Poura mine

The government has authorised today, 3 May 2023, the granting of an industrial exploitation permit to the company Pourra Gold Operation.

The company POURA GOLD OPERATION SA is a mining company under Burkinabe law, created by Poura Ressources Limited (PRL) to exploit the gold deposits of the Poura gold district, located in the communes of Poura and Fara, Bale province, Boucle du Mouhoun region.

The requested mining permit covers an area of 32.59 km2 and has an estimated life of 10 years. Average production is estimated at 11.74 tonnes of gold.

In terms of spin-offs, this project will generate revenue of 51.35 billion FCFA for the state budget and will create 366 jobs, including 232 direct jobs and 134 indirect jobs.

In addition, there is also a contribution to the local development mining fund, in accordance with the provisions of law n°036/2015/CNT of 26 June 2015 on the Mining Code of Burkina Faso, which amounts to 2,956,054,662 FCFA for the duration of the mine’s operation. The implementation of the project’s Environmental and Social Management Plan (ESMP) will also help mitigate the environmental liabilities of the former mine.
