- 13 tonnes in 2012 to 48 tonnes in 2022
- With 55 tonnes of gold expected in 2024
- A good growth curve since 2015
Cote d’Ivoire expects record gold production in 2023. About 50 tonnes of gold are expected to be produced in 2023.
According to a survey published in early May by the Fraser Institute, Côte d’Ivoire is the best destination in West Africa for mining investment. Raw gold production has risen in 10 years from 13 tonnes in 2012 to 48 tonnes in 2022 and the outlook is good. The country wants to increase this volume this year and in the years to come. It is counting on new mines coming on stream during the year.
According to the Minister of Mines, Petroleum and Energy, Mamadou Sangafowa Coulibaly, who spoke at the signing of the collective agreement in the mining and quarrying sector, the forecasts for gold production in 2023 are good. “We expect about 50 tonnes for this year 2023 and 55 tonnes for 2024,” he added. Cote d’Ivoire owes this performance to the dynamism of its sector. According to Minister Mamadou Sangafowa Coulibaly: “The Ivorian mining sector is on a good growth curve since the adoption of the mining code in 2014”.
Indeed, there has been a notable increase in mining applications with 174 permits awarded over the period 2015-2022, 93% of which are for gold.
