DRC: President Félix Tshisekedi wants to relaunch its diamond industry

On the initiative of its president, Félix Tshisekedi, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is aiming to relaunch its diamond industry. To this end, he has tasked the Minister of Portfolio with speeding up the transformation of Anhui Mining Investment Company (Société Anhui d’investissement minier, SACIM).

President Tshisekedi’s initiative comes after his visit to Botswana from 9 to 12 May 2023. At the 99th meeting of the Council of Ministers, Félix Tshisekedi took stock of this visit. He emphasised the recovery plan initially drawn up and approved by the various stakeholders. For Félix Tshisekedi, any initiative aimed at regenerating, improving and optimising Congolese industries with a view to accelerating the country’s economic development should be promoted. These initiatives can be based on existing models, particularly those of countries with economies similar to those of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
