Following the publication of the provisional audit report on the mining sector, the Publish What You Pay coalition (PWYP-Mali) held a press conference at its headquarters on Friday 26 May 2023. During the press conference, the coalition drew the attention of the authorities to the need to publish the final audit report.
According to the Chairman of the PWYP-Mali coalition, Abdoul Wahab Diakité: “There are 15 companies, with one report per company. Each company is expected to respond”. He also stressed that it does not take two months to carry out an audit.
Abdoul Wahab Diakité expressed concern about the possibility of outside pressure on the government to publish the report.
The PWYP coalition is planning a whole process to achieve their objective. After the press conference, a visit to the Minister for the Economy and Finance, who is behind the audit, is scheduled. If the coalition is unsuccessful, it will address the Prime Minister and the President of the Republic of Mali.
The PWYP coalition is recommending that another audit be carried out for the current year, and that the mining contracts and community development plans be published.
