Burkina Faso: The process of revising the Mining Code in progress

0

The Secretary General (SG) of the Ministry of Energy, Mines and Quarries, Jean-Baptiste KABORE, chaired the national workshop for the validation of the draft mining code on Friday 2 June 2023 in Ouagadougou.

After 07 years of implementation of the 2015 Mining Code and its application texts, it has proved necessary to take stock in order to identify shortcomings and correct them. According to Jean-Baptiste KABORE, this review should help to better protect the environment and rationalise the tax benefits granted to mining and quarrying companies.

In addition to these aspects, the review of these texts will also make it possible to increase mining-related revenues with a view to promoting Burkina Faso’s economic and social development. In the SG’s view, this workshop, which brings together players in the mining sector, is intended to provide a framework for consultation and harmonisation of points of view, with a view to making the mining code more attractive. He hopes that this validation workshop will help to improve the preliminary draft mining code, so that the process of adopting it can proceed smoothly. Communications and Press Relations Department
