On Thursday 23 June, the Minister of Mines and Geology, Chen Sylvestre Mezui M’Obiang, received the Managing Director of China Precision Investment, Dr Donghu Liu. China Precision Investment took advantage of this meeting to present its ambitions in the Gabonese mining sector and to set out the contours of a future joint venture.
The company’s ambition is to “invest integrally” in industry and in the local processing of its production. The group also intends to put its technology at the service of Gabon, particularly in the field of mineral exploration, where the country is still lagging behind.
Chen Sylvestre Mezui M’Obiang, Gabon’s Minister of Mines and Geology, said: “Your presentation is of particular interest to us, because a country that wants to be a mining nation must take an interest in both the upstream and downstream stages of its mining industry, as you intend to do through full investment in the sector. Gabon is also committed to mapping its mining capacity. It is in this context that we welcome geological prospecting of our subsoil. The watchword of our mandate is to ensure that our geological knowledge of Gabon is strengthened (…) With regard to the local processing of your production, our country recently joined the African Mining Plan, which requires us to proceed in this way from now on, for the sustainable development of our respective countries, and hence of the continent”.
Reassuring his guest, the member of the government invited the head of the Chinese investment group to take advantage of the many opportunities offered by the Gabonese Mining Code. This security, combined with the country’s political stability, makes Gabon a favourable investment location.
The head of China Precision Investissment, Dr Donghu Liu, was reassured after his meeting with the Minister of Mines and Geology. “Gabon is a country with a lot of mining potential. That’s why we came here, and why we want to contribute to the development of its economy. We are an investment company with 30 years’ experience in the mining sector. After our discussions with the Minister, we are confident in our approach”.
