Between January and June 2023, Burkina Faso produced 27.396 tonnes of gold. Production was down by 3,041 tonnes compared with the same period in 2021, when it stood at 30,410 tonnes. This represents a fall of 9.91%. These figures come from the Ministry of Mines.

First-half production generated export revenues of 1,034.530 billion FCFA. Gold sales generated taxes and duties for the national budget, including 51.107 billion FCFA in royalties and 46.155 billion FCFA in revenue for the Local Development Mining Fund (LDMDF). This performance by the mining sector, despite the fall in production, is essentially attributable to the resilience of the gold price, which fluctuated between $2029.63 and $1900 per ounce during the half-year.

The 27,396 tonnes of gold were produced by 12 mining companies. The Essakane mining company produced the most with 6,299 tonnes. This represents 22.99% of total production for the period. It was followed by Houndé Gold (3.752 tonnes), Semafo Mana (2.356 tonnes), SOMISA (3.349 tonnes) and Bissa Gold (3.252 tonnes). In June 2023, production will resume at the Taparko mine, with 36.374 kg of gold exported, and Ymiougou will begin production (184.08 kg).
