Out of 122 applications received by the Centre of Excellence for Governance in the Extractive Industries in Francophone Africa (CEGIEAF), 24 participants from 9 countries, including Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Guinea, Mauritania, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Congo, Senegal, Chad and Togo, are taking part in the 12th session of the Summer University on the Extractive Industries in Francophone Africa in Yaoundé, Cameroon. Two participants from Burkina Faso are taking part in the course, which runs from 17 to 28 July 2023.

The course on mining taxation was given by Adrien Somda, from Burkina Faso

For the 12th year running, Paul BIYA’s country is welcoming a wide range of players from the media and civil society from 9 African countries to immerse themselves in the world of the extractive industry.

Since 17 July 2023, these participants have been receiving a wide range of presentations on various aspects of the extractive industries, including the political economy of the extractive industries, the framework for contracts in the extractive sector, mining, oil and gas taxation, local content policy, the reasons for the decision to extract, etc.

This training aims to provide these opinion leaders with the elements they need to develop a sufficiently strong critical mind to be able to assess and make proposals for reforms to improve policies in the extractive sector in their country of origin.

The course is organised by the Natural Resource Governance Institute (NRGI) and the Catholic University of Central Africa based in Yaoundé.
