The first edition of smart vacance opened in Ouagadougou on Thursday 20 July 2023. This extra-curricular and university programme aims to enhance the knowledge and skills of pupils and students in the field of geosciences, technologies and the environment.
In the words of Smart Vacance promoter Larissa Nikiema, this edition was planned by SGEE (Smart Geoscience and Environment Expertise): “This is the first edition of smart vacances, a project that SGEE has been working on for many years”. And it’s also the result of a range of strengths and skills. Larissa Nikiema points out that “smart vacance is an event with multiple objectives”.

Among other things, it will enhance knowledge and skills in the field of geosciences, technologies and the environment; introduce experimentation; and stimulate the spirit of initiative and entrepreneurship by assisting and sharing experiences between young entrepreneurs and learners. She hopes that this event will encourage the diversification and modernisation of scientific and technical education. She went on to say that the event is intended to be a framework for facilitating exchanges between young people and professionals.
Understanding the technologies associated with geosciences is still the least shared skill, but it can be useful in contributing to the influence and growth of national economies. There are many expectations of Smart Vacance. We therefore expect this opportunity to involve exchanges and practical work between specialists and young people, particularly on innovative ideas and the vision of entrepreneurship for young people’s self-employment ».
